Cambodia and Cuba Appreciate Women’s Role in Nation Building

PHNOM PENH: National Assembly President Khuon Sodary and outgoing Cuban Ambassador, Liurka Rodriguez Barrios, praised the sacrifices and courage of Cambodian and Cuban women who have sacrificed and worked toward peace and development.

On January 10, the Cuban Ambassador to Cambodia paid a courtesy call to the National Assembly President ahead of her departure. Khuon Sodary praised the results of the ambassador's diplomatic mission in strengthening the long-standing good relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Cuba.

She noted the many achievements of the ambassador during her diplomatic mission, during which she participated in social, political and women's affairs programs. She noted that both Cambodian and Cuban women were in similar historic situations, and that they stood strong and bravely cooperated with men. The National Assembly President stressed that women MPs are very important in building peace and sustainable development, environment and resilience of the nation. She stressed that difficulties have made women strong.

Ambassador Rodriguez Barrios praised the active participation of Cambodian women in politics, society and economy. In particular, she mentioned their ability and talent in the National Assembly as a model and symbol for women, saying she had learned a lot from the National Assembly President.

The ambassador said that Cuba continues to support Cambodia's development, especially by providing scholarships for Cambodian healthcare students to study in Cuba.
